One of the most famous sea voyages in history is the journey of Ferdinand Magellan and his crew, which began in 1519. Magellan, a Portuguese explorer sailing under the Spanish flag, set out to find a westward route to the Spice Islands (present-day Indonesia) by circumnavigating the globe.
